'Immigration and Emigration'

The annual Blascaod Commemoration is held in Ionad an Bhlascaoid in Dún Chaoin to celebrate and comemmorate the Great Blasket Island,an island off the Kerry coast which was evacuated in 1953 and whose community left us with a rich and unique literary heritage.

Each year, a certain aspect of island life is studied, and this year's theme is the legacy of Emigration and Immigration on Ireland. A wide programme of lectures, concerts and other events will be held during the weekend of the 10-12 October.

More information about the commemoration, and the surrounding area, is available by clicking the other buttons.
